Answer and Explanation:

Given : Fareed wants to add \frac{1}{4}+\frac{5}{8}

To find :

a. Add the fractions by using a Giant one to create a common denominator.

b. How can fractions help you find a common denominator?

Solution :

a) To make the denominator same we can multiply and divide the first fraction by 2,

i.e. \frac{1}{4}\times \frac{2}{2}=\frac{2}{8}

Now, Add the Giant fractions by substituting

\frac{1}{4}+\frac{5}{8}

=\frac{2}{8}+\frac{5}{8}

=\frac{2+5}{8}

=\frac{7}{8}

So, \frac{1}{4}+\frac{5}{8}=\frac{7}{8}

b) Two fractions with common denominator is easier to solve as we directly add and subtract the numerator as denominator remain same.

1/4×8/8= 8/32 5/8×4/4= 20/32
8/32 + 20/32 = 28/32
answer for A is 28/32 answer for B is they can help you find a common denominator by the bottom one of each fraction if the top one don't have the same denominator. ☺

You pay 5.65% on the first 110,000 of income and 1.45% in excess of $110,000. Calculate the FICA tax for an employee who earns 6
Y_Kistochka [10]

Answer:

The FICA tax for an employee who earns 60,000 a year is $ 3,390.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that you pay 5.65% on the first 110,000 of income and 1.45% in excess of $ 110,000, to calculate the FICA tax for an employee who earns 60,000 a year the following calculation must be performed:

60,000 <110,000

60,000 x 0.0565 = X

3,390 = X

Therefore, the FICA tax for an employee who earns 60,000 a year is $ 3,390.

The graph of x = 2(y-4) and x = 5(y-4) are shown below answer my following question to receive brainlest!!!
Ivanshal [37]

Answer:

The graph x = 2(y - 4) has a greater slope than the graph of x = 5(y - 4).

Step-by-step explanation:

x = 2(y - 4)\\\frac{x}{-2y}  = \frac{-2y}{-2y}  - 4\\-2y \frac{x}{-x} = \frac{-4}{-x} \\\frac{-2y}{-2}  =  \frac{-1x}{-2} \frac{-4}{-2}\\y = \frac{1}{2}x + 8   x = 5(y - 4)\\\frac{x}{-5y}  = \frac{5y}{-5y}  - 20\\\frac{x}{-x}  - 5y = \frac{-20}{-x}\\\frac{-5y}{-5} = \frac{-1x}{-5}  \frac{-20}{-5}\\y = \frac{1}{5}x + 4

1.44 Make-up exam: In a class of 28 students, 27 of them took an exam in class and 1 student took a make-up exam the following d
Olenka [21]

Answer:

a) Decrease

b) New mean = 78.43

c) Decrease

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following in the question:

Total number of students in class = 28

Average of 27 students = 79

Standard Deviation of 27 students = 6.5

New student's score = 63

a) The new student's score will decrease the average.

b) New mean

Mean = \displaystyle\frac{\text{Sum of all observations}}{\text{Total number of observation}}

Mean = \dfrac{\displaystyle\sum x_i}{27} = 79\\\\\sum x_i = 27\times 79 = 2133

New mean =

\text{ New mean} =\dfrac{ \displaystyle\sum x_i +63}{28}\\\\ =\dfrac{2133+63}{28}= \dfrac{2196}{28} = 78.43

Thus, the new mean is 78.43

c) Since the new mean decreases, standard deviation for new scores will decrease.

This is because the new value is within the usual values i.e. within two standard deviations of the mean. So, this wont cause a lot of variation as this value will be closer to already available data values. Also number of observations (n) in the denominator is increasing. Based on both these points we can conclude that standard deviation will decrease

Formula for Standard Deviation:

\text{Standard Deviation} = \sqrt{\displaystyle\frac{\sum (x_i -\bar{x})^2}{n}}

where x_i are data points, \bar{x} is the mean and n is the number of observations.
