The concern that most patients have with regard to electronic health information is the possibility of these records to be accessed by other people who are not directly involved in their care.  If this is the case, then I will let the patient understand that the electronic health information is protected and managed by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other local laws.  Hence, rest assured that his medical information is in good hands and that the healthcare team has all his best interests at heart.
