Answer: At the time the U.S was competing for more control in Central America and because of it, it resulted in more Nicaraguan affairs which led to a more U.S friendly government in the future.

The U.S's first armed intervention took place in 1909 with the overthrow of president Nicaraguan President José Santos Zelaya.

Then they closed the Panama canal so only the U.S would have access to it.

In turn the civilians suffered for this occupation and the U.S was blamed for some things that went on during this time.
