I would see what the colonist need from the native Americans and maybe the native Americans can compromise and give a bit. For example the colonist want food because they are hungry, the native Americans will do so. BUT, in return the colonist HAVE to return to their own land.

Any information that would help the colonists hold the Native Americans in high esteem and not dismiss their culture and beliefs is helpful to an equal and beneficial relationship.
