The Japanese shore was and is a lil bit treacherous for ships. it was believed by a Japanese goddess would disturb the waters so as to keep the mongols at bay, so i would say the victory was due to the mongols not being able to reach land therefore keeping the mongolian forces together and easily targetable<span />
