The sum of two numbers is 63. The larger number is 23 more than the smaller number. What are the numbers?

x+y=63

x=y+23

y+23+y =63

2y +23 = 63

2y =40

y=40/2 =20

y = 20

x = 20+23=43

the numbers are 20 & 43
