Larry wants to buy some carpeting for his living room. The length of te room is 3 times the width and the total area of the room

is 12 square meters. What is the length of the living room?

Divide the length of the room into thirds. Each third now has the same length and width, and is 12/3 m² = 4 m² = (2 m)².
