A "solution" is a pair of numbers that can be written in place of 'x' and 'y' and make the equation a true statement.

For example . . . Is (x=1, y=2) a solution ?
To find out, write '1' in place of 'x', and write '2' in place of 'y'.

y = 5x - 6
2 = 5(1) - 6
2 = 5 - 6
Is that true ? NO ! ! !
So (x=1, y=2) is NOT a solution to this equation.

But hold onto your seat . . . there ARE an infinite number of solutions.
You can draw a graph of the equation. The graph is a straight line,
and EVERY POINT on the line is a solution to the equation.
(Do you have any idea how many points there are on a line ? ! ?)

Since your question begins with the word "Which...", I know there was a
list of choices along with it, in the book or on the homework or wherever
you copied the question from, and you decided not to share the list. So
nobody can answer the question, because we don't know which choice
on the list is the correct one.

I'll just give you a few solutions to the equation, out of the infinite number
of them that there are:

Each of these lines is 1 solution:

x= -1, y= -11
x=0, y= -6
x=1, y= -1
x=2, y= 4
x=5, y= 19
x=100, y= 494

Terri played 70 tournament chess games during the school year and won 49 of them. What is her win-to-loss ratio?
Scilla [17]

Alright so the answer would be letter B, because

win-to-loss

49 to 21 (You can determine her losses by subtracted the number of wins from her total number of games played)

Now you must simplify your answer

7 is the greatest common factor (GCF) of both 49 and 21

Now divide both 49 and 21 by 7 to get

7 to 3

Two patrol boats leave Cape May at the same time, the same speed, but on different bearings. One has bearing 41°45
VMariaS [17]

Based on the information given, the computation shows that the distance between them is 2.47 miles.

Solving the distance.

Since one has bearing 41°45', this will be: = 41° + (45/60) = 41° + 0.75 = 41.75°.

The other has bearing 59°13'. This will be:

= 59° + (13/60) = 59° + 0.22 = 59.22°.

The difference of the angles will be:

= 59.22° - 41.75°

= 17.47°

Let the distance between them be represented by c. Therefore, we'll use cosine law to solve the question. This will be:

c² = a² + b² - 2ab cos 17.47°

c² = 20² + 20² - (2 × 20 × 20 × 0.19)

c² = 6.07459

c = 2.47
