A company believes 95% of its jobs applicants are trustworthy. the company gives everyone a polygraph test, asking "have you eve

r stolen anything from your workplace", to which all applicants naturally answer no. the company then uses a polygraph (lie detector) to see if they are trustworthy. suppose when a person lies, the polygraph detects the lie with probability 65%, but incorrectly identifies 15% of true statements as lies. what is the probability that a job applicant rejected under suspicion of dishonesty was actually trustworthy

Solution:

Number of Applicants which are trustworthy= 95%

Applicants which are not trustworthy=5%

The polygraph detects the lie with probability= 65%

Probability that the statement is true, but polygraph says it's not true= 15%

Probability that a job applicant rejected under suspicion of dishonesty was actually trustworthy=Number of Applicants which are trustworthy × Probability that the statement is true, but polygraph says it's not true

=\frac{95\times15}{100 \times 100}\\\\= \frac{1425}{10000}\\\\=0.1425

Step-by-step explanation:

98 = 188t - 16t^2

-16t^2 + 188t = 98

-16t^2 + 188t - 98 = 0

8t^2 - 94t + 49 = 0

Use the quadratic formula with a = 8 , b = -94 , c = 49 to get the solutions

t = [(47 - root 1817) / 8]≈ 0.55

and

t = [(47 + root 1817) / 8] ≈ 11.20

Answer:

B. \frac{6}{2x^{2}  - 5x}

Step-by-step explanation:

The product of the ratioal expressions given above can be found as follows:

= \frac{2}{x} * \frac{3}{2x - 5}

Multiply the denominators together, and the numerators together, separately to get a single expression

\frac{2(3)}{x(2x - 5)}

= \frac{6}{x(2x) - x(5)}

= \frac{6}{2x^{2}  - 5x}

The product of the expression \ = \frac{2}{x}*\frac{3}{2x - 5} = \frac{6}{2x^{2}  - 5x}

The answer is B.
