It is very different from civilian dictatorship. The motivation here is seizing power. Their view is that they are saving the lives of the nation from the corrupt civilian politicians. They describe their position as neutral arbiters. For example, they have adopted titles like national liberation committee. The leader rule as Junta. It is occasionally called as Khakistrocracy. Most of the military dictatorship have formed after coup d etat who have overthrown the previous government. The senior military commander maintains political power. In Pakistan General, Mohammad Zia Ul-Haq held a referendum in electing themselves. They justify their rule as a way to bring political stability in the nation. They think they are rescuing the nation from the threat of dangerous ideology is like Islamism, socialism and communism. Military regimes portray themselves as non-partisan. The party provide leadership in times of turmoil. They portray politicians as corrupt and ineffective. They instituted martial law that is the permanent emergency.

Unfortunately, dictatorship don't mean well for the country they govern. In most dictatorship that are brutal, the citizens lives in abject poverty because the government refuse to give foods and supplies so as to keep the people under its control.  

For example, in 2008, there was a human right abuse that took place in Myanmar when the cyclone swept over the country, thousands of people were killed and millions were left without food and shelter.  

The country military dictatorship at that time, blocked humanitarian aid from getting to the citizens until a sham election were held.

Dictators makes decisions without the input of either the people or other government branches. They forces their will on the people.  

Dictators don't have good intention for the people, they seize or get to the position of authority to benefit themselves and their families and often times get to power through violence means, instead of peaceful transition of power.
