How was the united states connected to cuba in the 1890s?

History

Cuba had been a country of interest for Americans for many years prior to the 1890s. Because it was only 90 miles from the tip of Florida, many Americans believed it to be a natural extension of the US. During the 1890s it became a profitable source of trade for American businessmen. After the Cuban revolt against Spain ended the Americans poured investments over $50 million into Cuba and became the biggest purchaser of Cuban sugar. The US removed tariffs making sugar cheap for Americans to buy. Both the US and the Cuban economies benefited and the trade increased to $100 million. The depression of 1893, however, had a negative effect on both economies.

Which statement summarizes President Obama’s actions in Iraq and Afghanistan during his first term?
ankoles [38]
The best and most correct answer among the choices provided by the question is the second choice "The Obama administration withdrew most troops from Iraq and prepared for troop withdrawal from Afghanistan."

For all of Obama’s efforts at rapprochement with much of the world, he—like George W. Bush—was a wartime president. With the situation in Iraq continuing to improve and the target date for ending U.S. combat operations there approaching, in February 2009 Obama increased the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan to 68,000 troops. Throughout his presidential campaign he had argued that the focus of U.S. military efforts should be in Afghanistan rather than Iraq, and, with the resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the military requested that Obama deploy an additional 40,000 troops there. After carefully weighing the situation for three months, Obama choose to send an additional 30,000 troops, a decision that was criticized by many in his party.

Identify two purposes of Reagan's speech.how do the style and content of the speech contribute to his purposes?
Allushta [10]

1. If the referred speech is the “Challenger Disaster” I could state that he pursued two purposes:

• Uplift a shocked nation

• Acknowledge Challenger crew as heroes, who sacrificed themselves doing their jobg

2. Both objectives were achieved by the use of persuasive statement in his speach, by appealing people´s emotions. In this order of ideas, the first purpose was to help people make sense of how they felt with the tragedy.

The following excerpt will help illustrate the above: For the families of the seven, we cannot bear, as you do, the full impact of this tragedy. But we feel the loss, and we’re thinking about you so very much. Your loved ones were daring and brave, and they had that special grace, that special spirit that says, “Give me a challenge, and I’ll meet it with joy.” They had a hunger to explore the universe and discover its truths. They wished to serve, and they did. They served all of us.

This shows how he drew interest and demonstrated the reasons to support the families, by the use of key expressions such as “daring,” “brave,” and "special grace".

The second purpose, was not an easy task, since Reagan brought to present the fact that they were doing their job, as part of the advancements of the space program. Take a look at the fragment: We’ve grown used to wonders in this century. It’s hard to dazzle us. But for twenty-five years the United States space program has been doing just that. We’ve grown used to the idea of space, and, perhaps we forget that we’ve only just begun. We’re still pioneers. They, the members of the Challenger crew, were pioneers.

By saying this, crew members were placed in history as trascendent.
