Mathematics

Answer:

Set notation is given by

{\bf X}= \{{\bf setofallelements\}}

Step-by-step explanation:

A set  is a collection of things. The objects in the set are called the elements, and they are expressed within  in  curly braces.

Let X be the set and is notated by

ie, X=\{set of all elements\}

For example  if  we list the elements of "the set of things on my alphabets , the set can be in the form

\{ a,b,c,...,z\}

Sets are usually notated using capital letters. So let the  set be "A". Then we have:

A = \{a,b,c,...,z \}

If the sets are unordered, which means that the elements in the set have not to be listed in order. The set above mentioned can be easily  written as:

A = \{ a,c u,d,...,i \}

To say that any element is an element of a set. . For example, to say that "d is an element of the set A", we would write the following:

d ∈A

This is pronounced as "d is an element of A".

There are the symbols to use:

N : the set of all natural numbers ,Z : the set of all integers

,Q : the set of all rationals ,R : the set of all real numbers.

Sets can be related to each other. If one set contains another set  is called a subset.

Suppose A=\{ 1, 2, 3 \} and

B = \{ 1, 3, 4, 6 \}. Then A is a subset of B, since everything in A is also in B. Therfore it can be written as:

A ⊂B

it is pronounced as "is a subset of"or A contains B

To show something is not a subset

B is not a subset of A  ie, B⊄A  and is pronounced as "B is not a subset of A" or B not contains A

Combination of two sets  is called the union  sets, and is notated by a large U-type symbol. If we only taking common elements from two sets, then it is called the intersection  sets, and is notated  by upside-down U-type symbol. So if

C = \{ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 \} and D = \{ 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 \}, then:

C \cup D =\, {C \bigcup D}= \{ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 \}

C \cap D = \, {C \bigcap D}= \{ 4, 5, 6 \}

These are pronounced as "C union D equals..." and "C intersect D equals...", respectively.

A set of final examination grades in an introductory statistics course is normally distributed, with a mean of 77 and a standar
Shalnov [3]

Answer:

0.9007 is the probability that a student scored below 86 on this exam.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following information in the question:

Mean, μ = 77

Standard Deviation, σ = 7

We are given that the distribution of examination grades is a bell shaped distribution that is a normal distribution.

Formula:

z_{score} = \displaystyle\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

a) P(student scored below 86)

P(x < 86)

P( x < 86) = P( z < \displaystyle\frac{86 - 77}{7}) = P(z < 1.2857)

Calculation the value from standard normal z table, we have,

P(x < 1.2857) = 0.9007 = 90.07\%

0.9007 is the probability that a student scored below 86 on this exam.

patriot [66]

Answer/Step-by-step explanation:

1.a)(iv). \frac{1}{6} + (-\frac{7}{8}

Positive multiplied by negative = negative

\frac{1}{6} - \frac{7}{8}

\frac{4 - 21}{24} = \frac{-17}{24} = -\frac{17}{24}

2a.) 73.48 +(-37.3)

Note: + * - = -

73.48 - 37.3 = 36.18

3c.) 3\frac{3}{4} ÷ (-4\frac{2}{7})

Convert to proper fraction

\frac{15}{4} ÷ (-\frac{30}{7})

Change ÷ to × and flip the fraction on your right upside down

\frac{15}{4} * (-\frac{7}{30})

-\frac{15*7}{4*30}

-\frac{1*7}{4*2} = -\frac{7}{8}

3d.) -52.25 ÷ (-5.5) = \frac{-52.25}{-5.5}

(Note: - ÷ - = + )

\frac{-52.25}{-5.5} = 9.5

Kennedy walks 2miles in 15 minutes she want to walk 3 more miles at the rate of speed. Which equation represents how many minute
Mekhanik [1.2K]

Answer:

We know that the equation for the speed is:

Speed = Distance/time.

First, we know that he walks 2 miles in 15 minutes.

distance = 2miles

time = 15 minutes

Then his speed in that interval is:

Speed = (2 mi)/(15 min) = (2/15) miles per minute.

Now, at this same speed, he wants to walk 3 more miles. And we want to find the equation that represents how much time she needs to walk 5 miles (the 2 first miles plus the other 3 miles)

We use again the equation:

Speed = Distance/Time

But we isolate Time, to get:

Time = Distance/Speed

Where:

Distance = 5 miles

Speed = (2/15) miles per min

Time = (5 miles)/((2/15) miles per min) = 37.5 minutes

She needs 37.5 minutes to walk the 5 miles.
