Indeed, a character’s persona is definitely defined by his inner psyche and one of the most reliable and insightful ways to begin describing a character is through his habits (good or bad). Habits are routine, repetitive behaviors that are subconscious and which are inextricably originated by a person’s mental or psychological state. They reveal aspects about the innermost aspect of a person’s nature ans psychological status.

There are several examples of bad habits in literature that are indicative of a character’s psyche. One example would be a female character that changes clothes several times before trivial occasions which clearly indicates some kind of pathology based on a psychological complex.
