The excerpt is part of President Roosevelt´s first State of the Union address, in 1902, when he stated firmly that the canal was a prime priority for his government. The Spanish-American War had proven that a faster water crossing between the Us´s east and west coast was very much needed.

I need help with #5. The passage is about women fighting for their rights especially their right to vote.

It was difficult for women to get rights especially for voting because men were often viewed as superior against women and smarter. Often times in the past women weren't even allowed to go to school after a while. It is still that way in some countries. This probably didn't help much but if I could get the passage I could be more helpful.
