Your body uses food through a continuing series of body processes. Number the processes 1 through 13 to show the correct sequenc

1. Gastric juices break down foods chemically and physical breakdown continues until a thick liquid called chyme is produced.

2. The smell or sight of food causes saliva to flow in the mouth.

3. Chyme is broken down fully into glucose, fatty acids, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and water.

4. The liver turns nutrients into forms needed by the body and stores unneeded nutrients for future use.

5. Peristalsis forces food to enter the stomach.

6. Teeth break bites of food into small pieces.

7. Nutrients are used by cells for specialized purposes.

8. Villi in the small intestine absorb nutrients into the bloodstream.

9. Chyme is released into the small intestine, where it is affected by bile, pancreatic juice, and intestinal juice.

10. Food is swallowed and passes into the esophagus.

11. Nutrients are carried through the 'portal' vein to the liver. (I don't know if 'portal' is the right word, the copier sucks)

12. Waste material moves into the colon.

13. Nutrients and oxygen are carried by blood vessels to individual cells.
