General rule for adding numbers
Two integers with the same signs
=> Once 2 integers has the same sign, then add.
For example
5 + 3 = 8 ( 5 and 3 are both positive numbers)
-5 + (-3) = -8 (5 and 3 are both negative number, thus we added the 2 numbers)

Two integers with different signs
=> When 2 integers has different sign, then do subtraction
For example
<span>-5 + 3  (5 and 3 has different signs) </span>
- 5 + 3 = 2

Two integers that vary in sign
=> When 2 integers vary in sign, then it will depend on the operator
For example
<span>5 + (-3) (5 and 3 has different signs, but the process will vary with the operator and number sign) </span>
When positive and negative = negative
<span>5 – 3 = 2</span>

Find the set of values of x for which y is zero in<br>the equation y=(x + 2) (2x-2)
Alex777 [14]

Answer:

{ - 2, 1 }

Step-by-step explanation:

To determine the values let y = 0, that is

(x + 2)(2x - 2) = 0 ← in standard form

Equate each factor to zero and solve for x

x + 2 = 0 ⇒ x = - 2

2x - 2 = 0 ⇒ 2x = 2 ⇒ x = 1

The set of values are { - 2, 1 }

Suppose two adjacent endpoint of a rotated square are located at (-4, -6) and (5, -1) on the coordinates axes. What is the lengt
kompoz [17]
To find the length of side of square, we have to use distance formula.
Points are (-4,-6) and (5,-1)
Formula for distance between two points.
d= \sqrt{( x_{2}-x_1 )^2+(y _2-y_1)^2 } \\ &#10;Put \ values \\&#10;d= \sqrt{( 5+4)^2)+(-1+6)^2  } \\ &#10;d= \sqrt{( 9)^2)+(5)^2 } \\ &#10;d=\sqrt{106} \\ &#10;d=10.3 \ units&#10;
So length of side of square is 10.3 units.
