New England farmers had mostly salt water, hard grounds, and unforgiving weather. Southern farmers had fresh water, soft soils, and plenty of rain and enough sunshine.

The American colonists rebelled against British policies in several different ways, including throwing tar and feathers on British tax collectors and destroying millions of dollars worth of tea during the Boston Tea Party. One example of this would be the Intolerable (Coervice) Acts. This was a set of punishments made by the British government after the Boston Tea Party. This closed Boston harbor (hurting colonial merchants) and forced American colonists to quarter (house) British soldiers at any given time.
