Texas has a long history of hostile take over.

That territory had a lot of natural resources and made a lot of Countries fighting over the right to its territory.  Most notably was France, Mexico and Spain. But eventually, the the locals able to pushed out the foreign invaders and formed the Republic of Texas,

Republic of Texas acted as its own authority. They made their own laws, government, and owned their territories. Which make it an independent country. Texas became part of united states when they agreed to join the United States in 1845
