According to the author, there is nothing inherently distasteful about spit. Many people tend to react negatively to the thought of drinking spit because the meaning we attach with the word spit is negative.

Explanation:

People react to spit negatively because they consider it to be something dirty and useless. People's thoughts are governed by what they think or consider an object to be. If an objective is viewed as negative or not in good taste, the thoughts attached with the object would also be negative.

Spit otherwise is not distasteful and in fact is important for the digestive system to function in the right manner. However, for most people spit is a dirty think which they consider useless.

The cochlea contains ___________ which send messages to the areas of the brain that are responsible for interpreting auditory in
Elena L [17]

Answer:

The cochlea contains of tiny stereocilia, or tiny hair cells.

Explanation:

By definition, cochlea is a snail-shaped portion of the inner ear, that belongs to the auditory system. Cochlea receives the vibrating sounds and it causes stereocilia (bundle of tiny hairs, visible in that shape only under the microscope) to move. Then, those vibrations are converted into nerve impulses, and further sent to brain so the received nerves can be processed.

That hearing is an extraordinary process, says the fact that we have over 15000 tiny hair cells! When sounds are too loud for too long, these bundles of stereocilia can be damaged. The damaged hair cells can't respond to sound, which causes noise-induced hearing loss. Since hair cells can’t be repaired or even replaced in humans, hearing loss is often permanent.

In a study where the researchers told some subjects they were receiving alcohol and other subjects they were not receiving alcoh
Aleks [24]

Answer:

The consumption of alcohol or alcohol flavoring.

Explanation:

In research, we usually have two different types of variables:

 • The independent variable is the one that the researchers can control and that will have an effect on another variable.
 • The dependent variable is the one that cannot be control and that is affected by the independent variable. Researchers observe this variable to see how it changes. This is the variable that will be tested or measured.

In this example researchers told some subjects they were receiving alcohol and to some others they were not receiving alcohol and measured their physical coordination and mental capacities. We can see that the researchers could control the amount of alcohol the participants were going to consume and the coordination and mental capacities would be affected by this consumption. Therefore, since the consumption of alcohol will have an effect on the other variable, this would be the independent variable.
