Hello!

First you have to make the fraction have the same denominator so they are related

You can multiply the 1 and the 3 in 1/3 by 5 to get 5/15

You can multiply the 2 and the 5 in 2/5 by 3 to get 6/15

So he painted 5/15 of his room with 6/15 cans of paint.

Next you have to find out how much more of the room that needs to be painted

You can multiply 5/15 by 3 to get 1 which is his whole room

Now you do 6/15 * 3 to see how much paint he needs

This gives us the answer of 18/15 which is equal to 1 and 1/6 cans of paint

Hope this helps!

1/3 and 2/5 --> what we need is a least common denominator
(1/3)x5                     (2/5)x3
5/15 and 6/15
so he needs to paint his room two more times which will make the 5/15 become 15/15
you start with 5/15 and you need to add "5/15" two more times which will make 15/15
so you do that to 6/15
6/15+6/15+6/15=18/15=1 3/15 or 1 1/5 cans of paint ANSWER

Given: PSTQ is a trapezoid. ST=4, PQ=25, PS=13, TQ=20 Find: Area of PSTQ.
babunello [35]

Answer:

  174 units²

Step-by-step explanation:

There are a few different ways you can find the altitude of the trapezoid. Consider the attached figure with some points and lines added. SQ' is parallel to TQ, so Q'Q = 4 and PQ' = 21. Based on the side length of PS = 13, you can guess that the height is 12. (5-12-13 is a commonly-used Pythagorean triple.) This would make PP' = 5, P'Q' = 16, and triangle SP'Q' have side lengths 12, 16, and 20, corresponding to a 3-4-5 right triangle multiplied by 4.

Another way to find the height is to use Heron's formula for the area of triangle PSQ'. The side lengths are 13, 20, 21, so the half-perimeter is 27 and the area is √(27(27-13)(27-20)(27-21)) = √(9²·14²) = 126. The base of the triangle, PQ', is 21, so the height is ...

... h = 2A/b = 2·126/21 = 12

The area of parallelogram Q'STQ is then ...

... A = bh = 4·12 = 48

and the total area is the triangle area plus the parallelogram area:

  trapezoid area = 126 + 48 = 174 . . . . units²

_____

Of course, with the height known, the usual formula for the area of a trapezoid can be used:

  A = (1/2)(b1 +b2)h

  A = (1/2)(25 +4)·12 = 29·6 = 174 . . . . units²

The table shows the travelling time to work of 50 people.
Crank

Answer:

24.8 mins

Step-by-step explanation:

Time > timemark > frequency

0 – 10 > 10/2 = 5 > 5

10 – 20 > (10+20)/2 = 15 > 15

20 – 30 > (20+30)/2 = 25 > 13

30 – 40 > (30+40)/2 = 35 > 10

40 – 50 > (40+50)/2 = 45 > 7

The mean time for the 50 people is given by:

Mean = summation (mid time x frequency) / total frequency

Mean = [5x5 + 15x15 + 25x13 + 35x10 + 45x7] / 50

Mean = [25 + 225 + 325 + 350 + 315] / 50

Mean = 1240 / 50

Mean = 24.8 mins
