The common ratio is gotten by taking the ratio between the succeeding and preceding term of any exponential sequence. For example, given the sequence 2,4,8,16... This sequence is an exponential sequence because they possesses a common ratio which is 2 calculated as thus;
4/2=8/4= 16/8 = 2
