First you have to set r by itself and to do this you have to subtract 5 from both sides (because 5 is positve and in order to get rid of a positive is with a negative) now we have -4r=20, now divide both sides by -4 to leave r by itself, when you do you will end up with r=-5

Hope this helps

What is the common denominator of 1/a + 1/b in the complex fraction (1/a - 1/b)/(1/a + 1/b)?
mezya [45]

For this case we have the following fraction:

\frac{\frac{1}{a} - \frac{1}{b}}{\frac{1}{a}+\frac{1}{b}}

To find the common denominator, what we must do is rewrite the fraction.

For this, we subtract fractions in the numerator and the sum of fractions in the denominator.

We have then:

\frac{\frac{b-a}{ab}}{\frac{b+a}{ab}}

We observe that the common denominator is given by the product:

ab

Answer:

the common denominator is:

D)ab

What are the solutions to the equation x^2-8x=24
Oduvanchick [21]
x^{2} - 8x = 24

Transposing the equation to give zero on the RHS:
x^{2} - 8x - 24 = 0

Since we can't factorise it directly, we must complete the square to yield any solutions:
x^{2} - 8x + ( \frac{8}{2})^2 - (\frac{8}{2})^2 - 24 = 0
(x^{2} - 8x + 16) - 16 - 24 = 0
(x-4)^2 - 40 = 0
(x-4)^2 = 40
x-4 = +/- \sqrt{40} ––> because square rooting yields a positive and negative solution.
x = 4 +/- \sqrt{40}
x = 4 +/- 2 \sqrt{10}

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Solve for the specified variable <br> ax-by=8 (b)
Lady_Fox [76]
Ax + by = 8

Subtract ax from both sides.

by = 8 - ax

Divide both sides by y.

b = (8-ax)/y
