Robert .k. Merton develops the Anomie theory. In this theory, most of the individuals achieved the same goal that is culturally more accepted. The state of anomie developed when the goals are blocked to the entire people. So the deviant behavior occurred in the form of rebellion, retreat, ritualism, innovation and so on. This theory was published in 1938 but when it was not noticed by people then this theory called sleep theory. The anomic condition does not perceived when there are differences between needs and satisfaction. but it occurs when discrepancy has been found between the goals and means.
