Musical notation is important because within a piece of music, the musician needs to know how long to hold a certain note, such as the quarter getting four beats. Benefits that musicians and others receive from being able to write down and note aspects of a musical piece are being able to better understand the message that the composer was trying to convey and being able to place dynamics in order to make the music move.
