Answer:

B-The author contrasts the amounts and locations of the tree cover in the past with the amounts and locations of present tree cover.

C-The author discusses causes of damage to forests done from the time of the first European settlers forward to today.

Explanation:

In this text, the author urges the reader to realize that the natural beauty of the nation is not immutable. Far from being permanent, this can change due to human action, and thus should be protected. The author tells us that from the time that European colonists arrived in America to the present, human action has been responsible for significant damage to forests. He also provides evidence of such changes by contrasting the amounts and locations of tree cover in the past and present.

Why the concept of ‘separate but equal’ is not a good concept
Vladimir79 [104]

Answer:

See below:

Explanation:

Separate but equal is a contradictory idea. Why must equal things be separate in the first place? Firstly, as many know, America's history with the concept has been deceptive. For example, the "colored" restrooms were poorly looked after, while the "white" bathrooms were typically well taken care of, more so than the other bathrooms anyway. The idea was that because different races cannot coexist, we should be separated but given equal resources to survive. The only reason one would legally separate races is because they believed one race to be superior in value to the others. Therefore, separate but equal is nothing but a baseless, political pacifier.

“Discoveries: Mighty Mouse Bred”
Sidana [21]

Answer:

Read explanation---->

Explanation: The writer compared the mouse to Lance Armstrong for different reasons. For one, the mouse and Lance have the same type of body build. "The mighty mouse's body is very similar to that of champion cyclist Lance Armstrong..." It also goes into detail about the mouse's endurance, which is caused by the same acid in Lance Armstrong's body. "produces energy without releasing too much lactic acid, keeping Armstrong from tuckering out."

Which speech topic would be most appropriate for a speech to a group of retirees?
Airida [17]
A speech topic that would be appropriate for a group of retirees would be, to me, to explain that once retired from one's main employer life and one's aspirations and drive do not end there. For example, it is still possible to earn money but less strenuously and rigid than punching a clock by, for example doing freelance work on the internet. Also, now that there is more time, one can pursue his/her real interests of say, writing a book, becoming an artist or supporting progressive politics, for example.
