The correct answer is Mesopotamian.

The Code of Hammurabi was one of the earliest written legal codes of laws. It was created in ancient Mesopotamia and was proclaimed by the Babylonian king Hammurabi.

The Hammurabi code of laws is a collection of 282 rules and deals mainly with commercial interactions such as establishing wages and tariffs for sales or terms for transactions. One third of the code is dedicated to family matters such as inheritance, divorce or paternity.

The code was carved into a massive black stone stele ( pillar),  which was taken by invaders and rediscovered in 1901. It is currently on display in the Louvre.
