Rate (or rate of change)

Further explanation

This is part of a linear equation in two variables.

  • Recall the equation \boxed{ \ y = mx + c \ } is called a linear equation in two variables. The graph of this equation in two variables x and y is a straight line.
  • \boxed{ \ y = mx + c \ } is called the slope-intercept form of the equation of a line, where m is the slope and the y-intercept is (0, c).

In any subject, the slope (or the gradient) of a line can be interpreted as either ratio or rate.

  • When the x-axis and y-axis have the same units of measure, the slope can be interpreted as a ratio, because the slope has no units. For example, the ratio of the amount of money owned by two people, or the scale on the map.
  • When the x-axis and y-axis have different units of measure, the slope can be interpreted as a rate or rate of change. For example, the rate of change in distance to travel time or speed.

The slope is generally the change of y coordinates to the change of the x coordinates. For example, if you're going to graph the velocity vs time graph, your slope will be the change of velocity over the change of time. The units of measurement are not the same because velocity is in meter per second while time is in seconds.

What is the slope of the line l described by the equation below? y=-2x+4
Masteriza [31]

Answer:

The slope of the line would be -2.

Step-by-step explanation:

Because the equation is a line, the slope is the same throughout the entire graph on the equation.

Lets let f(x)=y=-2x+4.

f(0) = -2(0) + 4 = 4

f(0)=4

f(1) = -2(1) + 4 = 2

f(1)=2

Use the equation to find slope.

m(slope) = \frac{2-4}{1-0} = \frac{-2}{1} = -2

The slope would be -2.

Or:

Use the equation y = mx + b where m=slope.

In the equation y=-2x+4, m=-2.

The slope is -2.

Explain how to perform a two-sample z-test for the difference between two population means using independent samples with sigma
Rom4ik [11]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

In the two independent samples application, it involves the test of hypothesis that is the difference in population means, μ1 - μ2. The null hypothesis is always that there is no difference between groups with respect to means.

Null hypothesis: ∪₁ = ∪₂. where ∪₁ represent the mean of sample 1 and ∪₂ represent the mean of sample 2.

A researcher can hypothesize that the first mean is larger than the second (H1: μ1 > μ2 ), that the first mean is smaller than the second (H1: μ1 < μ2 ), or that the means are different (H1: μ1 ≠ μ2 ). These ae the alternative hypothesis.

Thus for the z test:

    if n₁ > 30 and n₂ > 30

     z = X₁ - X₂ / {Sp[√(1/n₁ + 1/n₂)]}

where Sp is √{ [(n₁-1)s₁² + (n₂-1)s₂²] / (n₁+n₂-2)}
