When a knife or broken glass slices through the layers of the skin and causes heavy bleeding it is called laceration. This kind of wound is inflicted when the soft skin tissue is torn. A laceration wound is also often times contaminated with debris and bits of whatever it is that caused the skin tearing in the first place. in this case germ contamination from a knife or bits of glass from the broken glass wound.
