The Panama Canal created a major economic boost for the united states because it allowed for a much shorter shipping route to Asia/Europe, and of course was a military/security advantage because it allowed for faster troop movements.

By establishing the Open Door policy, we soothed Chinese concerns AND secured our economical strength in China because we did not have to actively compete with other spheres of influence.</span>
