A train is traveling down a straight track at 27 m/s when the engineer applies the brakes, resulting in an acceleration of −1.0

m/s2 as long as the train is in motion. How far does the train move during a 54-s time interval starting at the instant the brakes are applied?

Answer:

364.5 m

Explanation:

Initial speed = u = 27 m/s

Acceleration = a = -1 m/s²

Distance = s

v^2-u^2=2as\\\Rightarrow 0-27^2=2\times -1s\\\Rightarrow \frac{729}{2}=s\\\Rightarrow s=364.5\ m

Time taken = t

v=u+at\\\Rightarrow t=\frac{v-u}{a}\\\Rightarrow t=\frac{0-27}{-1}\\\Rightarrow t=27\ s

So, in 27 seconds the train will stop and will have travelled a distance of 364.5 m.

So, the rest of the 27 seconds it will not move.

Hence, the distance covered in 54 seconds will be 364.5 m.

If the depth of water in a well is 10 m, what is the pressure exerted by it on the
Dahasolnce [82]

Answer:

Let d be the density of the water  (1000 kg / m^3   eq to 1 gm / cm^3)

P = d g h     for the pressure due to a column at the bottom of the column.

P = 1000 kg / m^3 * 10 m/s^2 * 10 m = 10^5 kg / m * s^2 = 10^5 N/m

What happens to the size of atoms as we go from left to right on the periodic table? T
Lady_Fox [76]

Answer:

Atomic size gradually decreases from left to right across a period of elements.

Explanation:

This is because, within a period or family of elements, all electrons are added to the same shell. However, at the same time, protons are being added to the nucleus, making it more positively charged.

A student has two 150kΩ resistors and two 200ߤF capacitors from which to create an RC circuit. Determine each of the possible ci
FrozenT [24]

Answer:

The time constants 30 seconds and the can form an RC Charging circuit.

Explanation:

Time constant, τ, is measured in terms of τ = R x C, in seconds, where R is the value of the resistor in ohms and C is the value of the capacitor in Farads

If R = 150 kΩ = 150000Ω

and C = 200 μF = 0.0002 F

τ = 150,000 × 0.0002

<u>= 30 seconds.</u>

A capacitor, (C)  connected in series with a resistor, (R) forms a RC Charging Circuit connected across a DC battery supply (Vs) via a mechanical switch, with transient time (time required to charge capacitor) = 5τ
