The correct answer is plate tectonics. The outermost shell of Earth, called the lithosphere, is partitioned into different tectonic plates (7 or 8 major ones). When a plate breaks along what are called faults, there is a release of energy, which causes seismic waves (the ground shaking). This shaking then causes several plates to rub against each other, and when they break, the earthquake results.

In what way did the physical geography of northern Europe affect the ethnic diversity of the region?
PSYCHO15rus [73]

Answer:

B) Extremely cold climate conditions made it difficult to live in the region

Explanation: In places where there are countless mountain ranges, there is bound to be isolation to the point where the people that already reside there would develop their own language, culture, and mannerisms. Northern Europe is filled with mountains and cold climate. Many people from other regions in Europe would have a hard time adjusting to the harsh conditions like the natives.

What have scientists used to build a chronology of earths past
eduard
Hi,

Scientists have used rock samples to date the Earth's past. They also might use Steno's principles.

Relative dating is the determination of the age of a rock or geological event by comparing with other rock/ geologic events. Absolute dating is a form of geologic dating that gives an actual date or age in history that the item was formed or died in years.

Steno's principles are:

Law of superposition - Bottom layer is the oldest, top layer of the youngest In undisturbed layers of sedimentary rock or magma.

Original horizontally - When sedimentary rock layers form, they are "created in a horizontal form.

The Principle of Lateral Continuity - States that layers of sediment initially extend laterally in all directions.
