Sponges move huge volumes of water through their bodies every day. Although this serves the function of filter feeding for the o

rganism, how might this also provide an “ecosystem” service (something that affects and/or benefits other organisms in their environment)? Contractile vacuoles are organelles that are responsible for excretion function. They perform osmoregulation which manages wastes, water and other needed materials in the cell. They are found in some prokaryoric organisms like the algae, protists, amoeba and other unicellular organisms.
