Proofs are used to show that a mathematical statement is true. The most common form of mathematical statements are if-then state

ments. Give an example of a true mathematical statement and a false mathematical statement in if-then form. For the false statement, include a counterexample showing that the statement isn’t true.

Answer:

True mathematical statement.

"If x = 0, then for any real number y, we have: y*x = 0."

This is true, and we can prove it with the axioms of the real set.

A false mathematical statement can be:

"if n and x are integer numbers, then n/x is also an integer number."

And a counterexample of this is if we took n = 1 and x = 2, both are integer numbers, so the first part is true, but:

n/x = 1/2 = 0.5 is not an integer number, then the statement is false,

the sum of 2 numbers is 49. Twice the smaller number is 97 less than 3 times the larger number. What are the numbers?
ivanzaharov [21]

Answer:

let the larger and smaller number be x and y respectively

first condition

x + y = 49

second condition

3x = 2y+97

3x-2y =97

Multiplying first condition by two and adding both equations

2x + 2y = 98

3x -2y = 97

5x = 195

x = 195/5 = 39

putting the value of x in

x + y = 49

y = 49 -39 = 10

Well to do scientific notation u have to use 10 then an exponent
example:
2.9867 x 10^10= 29,867,000,000
so u need exponents to do scientific notation.
