In Concept Simulation 10.2 you can explore the concepts that are important in this problem. Astronauts on a distant planet set u

p a simple pendulum of length 1.20 m. The pendulum executes simple harmonic motion and makes 100 complete oscillations in 290 s. What is the magnitude of the acceleration due to gravity on this planet

Answer:

5.63m/s2

Explanation:

Step 1:

Data obtained from the question.

Length (L) = 1.20 m

Time (t) =290 seconds

Number of oscillation (n) = 100

Period (T) =?

Acceleration due to gravity (g) =?

Step 2:

Determination of the period. This is illustrated below:

Period is the time taken to make one complete oscillation. It is given by:

Period (T) = time (t) / number of oscillation (n)

T = t/n

t = 290 secs

n = 100

T = t/n

T = 290/100

T = 2.9 secs

Step 3:

Determination of the acceleration due to gravity of the planet. This is illustrated below:

Applying the equation T = 2π√(L/g), the value of 'g' can be obtained as follow :

T = 2π√(L/g)

T = 2.9 secs

L = 1.20 m

g =?

T = 2π√(L/g)

2.9 = 2π√( 1.2/g)

Take the square of both side

8.41 = 4π^2 (1.2/g)

8.41 = 4.8π^2 /g

Cross multiply to express in linear form

8.41 x g = 4.8π^2

Divide both side by 8.41

g = 4.8π^2/8.41

g = 5.63m/s2

Therefore, the acceleration due to gravity of the planet is 5.63m/s2

An object moves with constant acceleration 3.10 m/s2 and over a time interval reaches a final velocity of 12.4 m/s. If its initi
Harrizon [31]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given:

a = 3.10 m/s^2

vf = 12.4 m/s

vi = -6.2 m/s

t = (vf - vi)/a

= (12.4 + 6.2)/3.1

= 6 s

displacement = (vf - vi)*t

= (12.4 + 6.2) * 6

= 111.6 m.

An aerobatic airplane pilot experiences weightlessness as she passes over the top of a loop the loop maneuver. The acceleration
Natali5045456 [20]

The radius of the loop is 18.9 km

Explanation:

When the airplane is at the top of the loop, the pilot experiences two forces:

  • The force of gravity, acting downward, of magnitude mg
  • The normal reaction exerted by the seat on the pilot, also acting  downward, N

Since the plane is moving in a circular motion, the net force on the pilot must be equal to the centripetal force, therefore we can write:

mg+N = m\frac{v^2}{r}

where

m is the mass of the pilot

g=9.8 m/s^2 is the acceleration of gravity

N is the normal reaction

v = 430 m/s is the speed of the plane

r is the radius of the loop

Here we are told that the pilot feel weightless at the top of the loop: this means that the normal reaction is zero,

N = 0

Therefore the equation becomes

mg=\frac{mv^2}{r}

And so we can find the radius of the loop:

r=\frac{v^2}{g}=\frac{430^2}{9.8}=18.9 \cdot 10^3 m = 18.9 km

Which of the following lists Earth's compositional layers in order of increasing density?
WITCHER [35]
The lists that arranges the Earth's compositional layers in order of increasing density is CRUST, MANTLE AND THEN CORE. The core is considered as the most dense and the lithosphere, which makes the outermost core, is considered as having the least density. Hope that this answer helps.

a car accelerates uniformly from rest to a speed of 65 km/h (18 m/s) in 12s. Find the distance the car travels during this time?
Vinil7 [7]

The car's speed was zero at the beginning of the 12 seconds,
and 18 m/s at the end of it.  Since the acceleration was 'uniform'
during that time, the car's average speed was (1/2)(0 + 18) = 9 m/s.

12 seconds at an average speed of 9 m/s  ==>  (12 x 9) = 108 meters .

==========================================

That's the way I like to brain it out.  If you prefer to use the formula,
the first problem you run into is:  You need to remember the formula !

The formula is        D = 1/2 a T²

                   Distance = (1/2 acceleration) x (time in seconds)²

             Acceleration = (change in speed) / (time for the change)
                                  =        (18 m/s)            /        (12 sec)
                                  =                      1.5 m/s² .

                  Distance  =  (1/2 x 1.5 m/s²) x (12 sec)²
                                  =       (0.75 m/s²)  x  (144 sec²)  =  108 meters .
