It is believed that 3% of people actually have this predisposition. The genetic test is 99% accurate if a person actually has th
fiasKO [112]

Answer:

Required Probability = 0.605

Step-by-step explanation:

Let Probability of people actually having predisposition, P(PD) = 0.03

Probability of people not having predisposition, P(PD') = 1 - 0.03 = 0.97

Let PR = event that result are positive

Probability that the test is positive when a person actually has the predisposition, P(PR/PD) = 0.99

Probability that the test is positive when a person actually does not have the predisposition, P(PR/PD') = 1 - 0.98 = 0.02

So, probability that a randomly selected person who tests positive for the predisposition by the test actually has the predisposition = P(PD/PR)

Using Bayes' Theorem to calculate above probability;

 P(PD/PR) = \frac{P(PD)*P(PR/PD)}{P(PD)*P(PR/PD)+P(PD')*P(PR/PD')}

                   = \frac{0.03*0.99}{0.03*0.99+0.97*0.02} = \frac{0.0297}{0.0491} = 0.605 .

For a craft, each student will need five rubber bands. There are eight students. What rubber bands come in bags of 9. How many b
gizmo_the_mogwai [7]

Answer:

In total 5 packets of rubber bands are needed.

Out of which 5 rubber bands are left.

Step-by-step explanation:

The number of rubber bands needed by 1 student  = 5

The total number of students  = 8

So, the total rubber bands needed by all students

=  Total students   x Number of rubber bands needed by 1 student

= 8 x 5  = 40 bands

Now 1 packet of rubber bands  = 9 bands

⇒ 2 packets  = 2 x ( 9 bands) = 18  bands

⇒ 3 packets  = 3 x ( 9 bands) = 27  bands

Similarly, 4 packets  = 36 bands , 5 packets  = 45 bands

Now, if we buy 4 packet of bands, there are 36 rubber bands which are LESS THAN THE TOTAL STUDENTS.

So, we buy 5 packets.

We have in total  45 bands, but the total students = 40

So, the number of  left rubber bands = Total bands - Total students

                                                               = 45 - 40 = 5

Hence, in total 5 packets of rubber bands are needed, and out of which 5 rubber bands are left.

If

p + q =  \frac{2u}{1 - u}  +  \frac{1 + u}{1 - u}  =  \frac{1 + 3u}{1 - u}

p - q = \frac{2u}{1 - u}  -  \frac{1 + u}{1 - u}  =  \frac{u - 1}{1 - u}

\frac{p + q}{p - q}  =  \frac{1 + 3u}{1 - u}  \div  \frac{u - 1}{1 - u}  = \frac{1 + 3u}{1 - u}  \div  (- 1) =  -  \frac{1 + 3u}{1 - u}
