At a glance, the map makes it clear that the poorest region in the world is the entire African continent, but especially the central region of it. There, countries such as Niger, Liberia, the Congo or the Central African Republic have more than 60% of their population living below the poverty line.

But, in addition, similar situations are seen in other corners of the planet, although in more isolated cases and not as a general phenomenon of a certain region. This is the case, for example, of Haiti in the Caribbean, India in Asia, Turkmenistan in the Middle East or Papua New Guinea in Oceania.
