In 1983 the composition of pennies in the United States was changed due, in part, to the rising cost of copper. Pennies minted a

fter 1983 weigh 2.50 grams while the earlier copper pennies weigh 3.11 grams. a. A roll of pennies contains 50 pennies. If a particular roll of pennies weighs 138.42 grams, how many of the earlier copper pennies and how many of the after 1983 pennies does this roll contain? b. Suppose you measure a roll of pennies on a scale which only reads the weight to the nearest gram. The scale says that the roll of pennies weighs 131 grams. What can you conclude about the pennies in this roll? What if the roll weights 134 grams? Explain.

Answer:

<u>Solution for (a)</u>

Earlier Copper pennies are 22.

After 1983 pennies are 28.

Step-by-step explanation:

Pennies minted after 1983 weigh 2.50g

Earlier copper pennies weigh 3.11g

A roll of pennies contains 50 pennies.

A particular roll of pennies weighs 138.42g

Let the number of pennies minted after 1983 be x and;

Earlier copper pennies be 50 - x

2.50x + 3.11(50 - x) = 138.42

Opening the brackets gives;

2.5x + 155.5 - 3.11x = 138.42

Solving like terms together gives;

-0.61x = -17.08

Dividing through gives;

x = 28

So there are 28 after 1983 pennies and;

50 - 28 = 22 earlier pennies.

At a pizza resturant they have a choice of 20 toppings. If a customer choosea two topping pizza find the probability that they o
Naddika [18.5K]

Answer: The probability is 1/190 = 0.005

Step-by-step explanation:

The probability of ordering two specific toppings out of 20 is:

For the first selection he can order 2 of them, peperoni or sausage, so the probability for the first selection is 2/20 = 1/10 (the number of correct options divided by the total number of options)

For the second selection we have only one option, because we assume that the other one was selected previously, here we also had a total of 19 toppings because one already was selected, the probability in this selection is 1/19.

The joint probability is equal to the product of those two probabilities:

P = (1/19)*(1/10) = 1/190 = 0.005

Leokris [45]
The perimeter of the first figure is 34 cm and the area is 64 cm².
The perimeter of the second figure is 38 cm and the area is 60 cm².
The perimeter of the third figure is 30 cm and the area is 36 cm².
The perimeter of the fourth figure is 72 cm and the area is 200 cm².
The perimeter of the fifth figure is 30 cm and the area is 36 cm².

To find the perimeter of each, we add the area of all sides.  For the first figure, the missing sides are 1 cm and 6 cm.  To find the area, we have two rectangles whose dimensions are 6x10 and 1x4.

For the second figure, the missing sides are 4 cm and 3 cm.  To find the area, we have two rectangles whose dimensions are 4x12 and 3x4.

For the third figure, the missing sides are 3 cm, 3 cm and 8 cm.  To find the area, we have two rectangles whose dimensions are 4x3 and 3x8.

For the fourth figure, the missing sides are 10 cm, 10 cm, 6 cm and 6 cm.  To find the area, we have two squares whose dimensions are 10x10.

For the fifth figure, the missing sides are 3 cm and 9 cm.  To find the area, we have two rectangles whose dimensions are 3x6 and 6x3.

A local grocery store chain has a sushi stand. That sushi stand makes samples for store customers to entice customers to purchas
Liula [17]

Answer: 0.99822

Step-by-step explanation:

Our inter-arrival time follows Poisson distribution with parameter 14 which is in hour so first we have to calculate this in minutes as we have to calculate probability in minutes.

So converting 14 into minutes will give  \frac{14}{60}=0.233

Let X=inter-arrival time between two customers

and here \lambda = 0.233

Probability(X is less than or equal to 2 minutes) = P(X=0) + P(X=1) + P(X=2)

Now the Poisson distribution has PDF = \frac{\exp ^{-\lambda }\times \lambda ^{X}}{X!}

So P(X = 0) = \frac{\exp ^{-0.233}\times 0.233^{0}}{0!} = 0.79215

P(X= 1) = \frac{\exp ^{-0.233}\times 0.233^{1}}{1!} = 0.18457

P(X=2) = \frac{\exp ^{-0.233}\times 0.233^{2}}{2!} = 0.02150

Now adding all three probability gives =  0.79215 +0.18457 + 0.02150=0.99822
