They thought that something suspicious was going on which is why they decided to look into the matter further. Eventually, they discovered everything in August 1972 and exposed the President and his administration for their criminal actions.

Many people did not want the Holocaust to happen, but because they did not stand up against it & voice their opinion, it still occurred. Remember, those who know about the situation and stay in the sidelines are as bad as the perpetrators themselves.
