A mail carrier parks her postal truck and delivers packages. To do so, she walks east at a speed of 0.80 m/s for 4.0 min, then n

orth at a speed of 0.50 m/s for 5.5 min, and finally west at a speed of 1.1 m/s for 2.8 min. Define east as +x and north as +y. (a) Write unit-vector velocities for each of the legs of her journey. (b) Find unit-vector displacements for each of the legs of her journey. (c) Find her net displacement from the postal truck after her journey is complete.

Explanation:

Given that,

She walks in east,

Speed = 0.80 m/s

Time = 4.0 min

In north,

Speed = 0.50 m/s

Time = 5.5 min

In west,

Speed = 1.1 m/s

Time = 2.8 min

(a). We need to calculate the unit-vector velocities for each of the legs of her journey.

The velocity of her in east

\vec{v_{1}}=0.80\ \hat{x}\ m/s

\vec{v_{2}}=0.50\ \hat{y}\ m/s

\vec{v_{3}}=1.1\ \hat{-x}\ m/s

(b). We need to calculate the unit-vector displacements for each of the legs of her journey

Using formula of displacement

\vec{d_{1}}=v_{1}\times t_{1}

In east ,

\vec{d_{1}}=0.80\times4.0\times60

\vec{d_{1}}=192\ \hat{x}\ m

In north,

\vec{d_{2}}=0.50\times5.5\times60

\vec{d_{2}}=165\ \hat{y}\ m

In west,

\vec{d_{3}}=1.1\times2.8\times60

\vec{d_{3}}=184.8\ \hat{-x}\ m

(c). We need to calculate the  net displacement from the postal truck after her journey is complete

\vec{d}=\vec{d_{1}}+\vec{d_{2}}+\vec{d_{3}}

Put the value in the formula

\vec{d}=192\hat{x}+165\hat{y}+184.8\hat{-x}

\vec{d}=7.2\hat{x}+165\hat{y}

We need to calculate the magnitude of the displacement

d=\sqrt{(7.2)^2+(165)^2}

d=165.16\ m

The magnitude of the displacement is 165.16 m.

Hence, This is the required solution.

When light passes through an object unchanged, scientists call that process _____.
Nataly [62]

<u>Answer</u>:

When light passes through an object unchanged, scientists call that process Transmission.

<u>Explanation</u>:

Transmission is the process where all the light that is passed through the material moves via the material without being absorbed. The Transmission depends on the affected radiation.The Transmittance of the medium is defined as the ratio between transmitted radiant power and incident radiant power. The light that is passed through the medium and not reflected will be either scattered or reflected. The light can be transmitted only through transparent or translucent material. Opaque object does not allows transmission of light.

What effect does the vertical acceleration have on the horizontal velocity of the projectile?
KengaRu [80]
Answer:
None, if air resistance is ignored.

Explanation:
At any instant, the projectile has vertical and horizontal components of velocity.
Vertical acceleration due to gravity affects the vertical velocity by accelerating the object toward the center of the earth, and by decreasing the upward vertical velocity..
The horizontal component of velocity makes the object travel horizontally as long as the projectile is airborne.
Thsi discussion assumes that air resistance is ignored.

A proton accelerates from rest in a uniform electric field of 610 N/C. At some later time, its speed is 1.4 106 m/s.(a) Find the
nata0808 [166]

Answer:

a) 5.851× 10¹⁰m/s²

b) 2.411×10⁻¹¹s

c)  1.70×10⁻¹¹m

d) 1.661×10⁻²⁷KJ

Explanation:

A proton in the field experience a downward force of magnitude,

F = eE. The force of gravity on the proton will be negligible compared to the electric force

F = eE

a= eE/m

= 1.602×10⁻¹⁹ × 610/1.67×10⁻²⁷

= 5.851× 10¹⁰m/s²

b)

V = u + at

u= 0

v= 1.4106m/s

v= (0)t + at

t= v/a

= 1.4106m/s/5.851 ×10¹⁰

= 2.411×10⁻¹¹s

c)

S = ut + at²

= (o)t + 5.851×10¹⁰×(2.411×10⁻¹¹)²

= 1.70×10⁻¹¹m

d)

Ke = 1/2mv²

    = (1.67×10⁻²⁷×)(1.4106)²/2

 =  1.661×10⁻²⁷KJ
