Why do tamoxifen and herceptin not work against basal-like breast cancer?

Biology

This is because basal-like breast cancers, do not express estrogen receptor (ER) or progesterone receptor (PR) and lacks human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) overexpression or amplification. Due to the absence of molecular targets, they are unlikely to respond to medications such as tamoxifen and Herceptin that target the aforementioned receptors.

Due to the absence of HER2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2) protein, the tamoxifen and Herceptin do not work against the basal-like breast cancer.

Further Explanation:

The breast cancer occurs in the cells of the breast. They begin to divide abnormally. The cells start dividing unconditionally as compared to normal cells. They form lump or mass of cells that can metastasize to the lymph node and other regions of the body.

The unconditional division of the cells begins with the cell of the milk-producing duct. It can also begin from glandular tissue (lobules). This cancer is also associated with mutated gene inherited from either of the parent. Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) genes have a crucial role in breast cancer development. It is present on the surface of the cancer cells that helps in receiving signals for growth and metastasizes. Basal-like breast cancer lacks this protein due to which it cannot be treated with tamoxifen and Herceptin. The tamoxifen and Herceptin are the medicines used for cancer therapy or targeted therapy. HER2 positive cancers are really hard to treat.

Describe how the earth maintains greenhouse effect ?

GarryVolchara [31]

Answer:

The greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms the Earth's surface. When the Sun's energy reaches the Earth's atmosphere, some of it is reflected back to space and the rest is absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases. ... The absorbed energy warms the atmosphere and the surface of the Earth.

Qualitative analytic methods are needed to determine _____.
atroni [7]
Qualitative analytic methods are needed to determine THE IDENTITY OF THE POISON USED IN A MURDER.
Quantitative analytic methods are used to identify unknown materials such as chemical compounds, poisons, etc. In a criminal investigation case, qualitative analytic method can be used to identify the particular poison that was used to murder a victim. Qualitative methods do not involve numeric data or figures while quantitative methods typically has to do with the quantity of a substance that is involved in a particular situation. This is basic difference between the two methods.

Answer:

Paradoxides pinus belong to the life forms that existed during the Cambrian period.

Explanation:

Paradoxides pinus is a form of trilobites that thrived all over the world during the middle of the cambrian period as per index fossils. Structurally, they are found to possess semi circular like head with the cheeks curving into structures that resemble spines. Their eyes are sickle shaped for they are believed to have all round vision. The exoskeleton is large and often flattened or oval in shape with greatest width along the re-curved spine.
