The major product is always one in which the halide is attached to the carbon with the least number of hydrogen atoms and the hydrogen attached to the carbon with the greatest number of hydrogen atoms across the double bond. However, the reaction is not steroselective. It does not yield a greater percentage of a particular stereo isomer. The reaction yields a 50-50 mixture of both syn- and anti- addition products.
