The opposite sides of a parallelogram are congruent.

So we have

3y - 6 = 21

3y = 27 so y = 9 (answer)

and 5x + 2 = 17

5x = 15 so x = 3 (answer)

For this case, the first thing you should know is that the opposite sides of the parallelogram are the same.

Therefore, we have the following equations:

3y-6 = 21\\5x + 2 = 17

From equation 1 we have:

3y = 21 + 6\\3y = 27

y = \frac{27}{3}\\y = 9

From equation 2 we have:

5x = 17 - 2\\5x = 15

x = \frac{15}{5}\\x = 3

Answer:

the value of the variables are:

y = 9\\x = 3
