In 1830, congress passed the Indian Removal Act. This law allowed then-president Andrew Jackson to remove the native indian populations of the Southeastern United States, to a new territory in Oklahoma, known as the Indian Territory.

Over 30thousand people belonging to the tribes mentioned in the question were obliged to abandon their homelands, and move westward. During this event, a lot of them died of diseases and starvation. This sad reality is the reason why it has come to be known as the Trail of Tears.
