Answer:

Pauld should place a maximum of 12 boxes in the elevator

Step-by-step explanation:

As in the sign is stated that the maximum weight that the elevator can carry is of 1000 pounds and each of the boxes of books weighs 80 pounds, and as he is not going to be inside the elevator you should divide the maximum weigh the elevator can carry by the weight of each box of books then you have

Maximum number of boxes =  \frac{1000}{80} = 12.5

He can maximum ride 12 boxes and a half, but if the boxes can't be divides he can just carry 12 boxes, because if he carries 13 the weight in the elevator will be of 1040, that beats the maximum capacity of the elevator.

Then he can maximum place 12 boxes in the elevator

IRISSAK [1]
Items bought in total:
4 brothers X two hot dogs and one bag of chips=
4X3=
12.

Hot dogs- x, chips- y.
4y + 8x= $18.20

Chips= $1.25 each so
4($1.25) + 8x= $18.20
5 + 8x= $18.20
8x= $18.20-5
8x= $13.20
x= $13.20/8 [13.20 divided by 8]
x= $1.65

This means that one hot dog= $1.65.

If you’re unsure what to write as the answer I’d suggest that you put all the working out down in your copy/notes.
