It is one of the basic tool of learning people's culture and also introducing your own culture to them. It can be termed as being friendly with the society, so as to be acceptable by the society.
Socialization is an interactive process because you communicate with people always, and you try to learn who their respond to things, their pattern of behavior, and what their believe in.
What i would have done is help the girl with her homework. When we are working the homework out or reading i will ask why is it not done. I would ask one more time after she gets done then we would watch a movie.
