Describe how the structures of proteins differ from the structures of carbohydrates (150 words)
Veronika [31]

well both are considered macromolecules. proteins are like big lego construction. each single piece gets pieced together to make a larger thing. each single piece is a monomer, and the larger construction is the polymer. the monomers are called amino acids and they get pieced together to form the polymer which is called a protein. the linkage that they use is an amide bond, and in biology it is usually called a peptide bond. carbohydrates can be singular monomers or polymer units. they are made of completely different compounds usually aldehydes or ketones. and they link together through different chemical linkages (acetal or ketal linkages for polymers, hemiacetal or hemiketal linkages for monomers). both can be large, 3D strucutres proteins are only functional as a large, 3D structure, while carbohydrates can be singular. (you might wanna word it differently for safety reason)

what is the deficiency disease for vitamins A, b1, c, and d and also for minerals, iron, and calcium
Tresset [83]

Answer:

  • Vitamin A (fat absorption/liver disorder):  Dry skin (i.e. eczema)
  • Vitamine B1 (thiamine deficiency): Beriberi (wet or dry)..wet affect heart/circulatory system, dry can cause heart failure
  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid):  anemia, gum disease, skin problems, and scurvy
  • Vitamin D (calcium):  bone loss/density; i.e. Rickets where bones become soft and bendable

Mineral dificiency (when your body does not absord or obtain the required amount of intake)

  • Iron (important for hemoglobin); low iron can cause anemia (causes you to feel weak or tired)
  • calcium (important for strong bones/teeth, supports proper function for blood vessels, muscles, nerves, and hormones); Calcium deficiency disease is osteopenia (left untreated it leads to osteoporosis--usually in older adults)

Which parts of a nervous reflex arc is usually a muscle or gland?
Alla [95]

The given question is incomplete as it does not have the options which are:

a) Sensory receptor

b) Sensory neuron

c) Motor neuron

d) Effector

e) Integration center

Answer:

The correct answer is option-Effector

Explanation:

A reflex arc is the mechanism of the neurons which controls the reflex action or involuntary responses or the instantaneous responses of the organisms.

The reflex arc involves the sensory receptors, sensory neurons (transmit signals from sense organ to spinal cord), motor neurons (transmit signals from spinal cord to muscle), Integration centre in the spinal cord and effector.

An effector represents the gland or the muscle which receives the transmitted signal from the motor neuron and responds by showing movements.

Thus, option-Effector is the correct answer.

Gene A is 10 mU from Gene B on chromosome 2, and the alleles are in coupling. An individual with the genotype AaBb is testcrosse
Zolol [24]

Answer:

Parental chromosomes A----b and a-----B when fertilized with ab will produce AabB and aaBb - these will be progeny with parental chromosome --- so no recombination.

You are told that map distance is 20cM which is also telling you that recombination frequency is 20% , so % progeny showing recombination = 20%, so % progeny not showing recombination is 100= 20 = 80%. This will be composed of the 2 parental categories, as above so % aaBb = 40%
