Answer: I think you mean NaCl. The Na is sodium. (The Na comes from Natrium, From the Latin and you’ll find many Historical points in Chemistry as you progress). The Cl, is the symbol for Chlorine. Now, Na, (sodium), is a silvery metal NOT found in Nature, it is too reactive! Chlorine is a greenish gas and very nasty - poisonous.

If you were to combine (in a very certain way to avoid problems that are not relevant yet), you would get an ionic solid, Sodium Chloride. Chlorine is diatomic, or Cl2. ( the 2 is a subscript). So 2Na + Cl2 = 2NaCl. This is the balanced equation of the thought experiment we just went through; but the regular way to write Sodium Chloride, is NaCl.
