Looking at your results of the Ames test , using bacteriological agar medium plates lacking the amino acid histidine, you find t

hat there are many colonies growing on the agar. Your interpretation of this result is:
A. The bacterium has turned its operon genes on, producing proteins necessary for growth
B. The chemical being tested is mutagenic
C. The bacterium does not have any plasmids, so it cannot grow on the medium
D. The drug being tested has no inhibitory effect on the bacterium, therefore it is not a good antibiotic to give for treatment of disease

Answer:

B

Explanation:

The Ames test is a bacteriological technique commonly used to determine if a particular chemical or substance can cause mutations. To achieve this, researchers use bacteria (commonly Salmonella typhimurium) as this bacteria strain is unable to grow in a medium that does not contain histidine (a very important amino acid in the biosynthesis of proteins). If the studied substance is able to cause mutations, bacteria will mutate, and they will be able to grow on that particular media even if they don’t have histidine for their metabolism. Therefore, if there are colonies growing, the chemical being tested is mutagenic.

I hope this clarify your inquiry.

Metabolites are small molecules that:
Pavlova-9 [17]

Answer:

C) generally consist of 1,000 different substances

Explanation:

Metabolites are compounds, usually organic, that participate in the chemical reactions that take place at the cellular level. The set of these biochemical reactions, together with the intracellular physical-chemical processes, constitutes the cellular metabolism, the molecular basis of life. The metabolism includes the degradation of molecules for obtaining energy (catabolism) and the synthesis of molecules necessary for growth, reproduction and repair (anabolism).

The succession of metabolic reactions that transform a given initial substance into another is known as a metabolic pathway. The starting substance is known as a substrate or raw material. The final substance is usually known as the final product or metabolite (a metabolic pathway can generate several final products) and the intermediate substances as intermediate metabolites. An intermediate or final metabolite in one metabolic pathway may be the substrate in another, which makes the vast majority of metabolic pathways interconnected.

Metabolites can be classified into two large groups, primary and secondary. Primary metabolites are defined as those that are directly involved in the normal growth, development and reproduction of an organism with an important physiological function. On the contrary, secondary metabolites are not directly involved in these processes. The absence of a primary metabolite usually leads to immediate or short-term death while the absence of a secondary metabolite does not.

According to the different types and diverse functions that fulfill there are an immense amount of metabolites

Give one real life example of an enzymatic reaction in the human body.
son4ous [18]

Answer:

Enzymes are the bio-catalyst produced by the body.

They increases the rate of bio-chemicals reaction taking inside the body.

They form enzyme-substrate complex in order to increase the rate of the reaction.

They are highly specific in nature.

Example:
 • Hexokinase catalyses the conversion of glucose to glucose-6-phosphate.
 • Salivary amylase catalyses the breakdown of starch into maltose (simpler sachharides).
 • Protein kinase is an enzyme used to activate or deactivate other by adding phosphate group to them.
