<h3>y = -3x - 1 is the equation of the given line in slope intercept form (-1, 2) (1, -4)</h3>

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

<em><u>The slope intercept form is given as:</u></em>

y = mx + c ---- eqn 1

Where, "m" is the slope of line and "c" is the y intercept

<em><u>Find the slope of line</u></em>

m = \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

From given,

(x_1, y_1) = (-1, 2)\\\\(x_2, y_2) = (1, -4)

Therefore,

m = \frac{-4-2}{1+1}\\\\m = \frac{-6}{2}\\\\m = -3

<em><u>Substitute m = -3 and (x, y) = (-1, 2) in eqn 1</u></em>

2 = -3(-1) + c

2 = 3 + c

c = -1

<em><u>Substitute m = -3 and c = 1 in eqn 1</u></em>

y = -3x - 1

Thus the equation of line in slope intercept form is found

• factor out sec²(<em>A</em>) in the denominator

… = 4 tan(<em>A</em>) / (sec²(<em>A</em>) (2 - sec²(<em>A</em>)))

• rewrite using the Pythagorean identity, sec²(<em>A</em>) = 1 + tan²(<em>A</em>)

… = 4 tan(<em>A</em>) / ((1 + tan²(<em>A</em>)) (2 - (1 + tan²(<em>A</em>))))

• simplify

… = 4 tan(<em>A</em>) / ((1 + tan²(<em>A</em>)) (1 - tan²(<em>A</em>)))

• condense the denominator as the difference of squares

… = 4 tan(<em>A</em>) / (1 - tan⁴(<em>A</em>))

The rectangular rug has side lengths of 3 and 4 ft. What is the length of the diagonal? Draw a picture of the problem and solve.
Nadusha1986 [10]

ANSWER

The length of the diagonal is 5 ft

EXPLANATION

The diagram of the rug with the diagonal is:

The diagonal and the sides form a right triangle, so we can use the Pythagorean theorem to find x, the length of the diagonal:

\begin{gathered} x^2=3^2+4^2 \\ x=\sqrt[]{9+16} \\ x=\sqrt[]{25} \\ x=5 \end{gathered}
