Controlled variables are variables that an experimenter keeps constant to prevent confounding with the independent variable. The are called this because the experimenter controls them. For example, suppose you want to compare the effectiveness of hypnosis and relaxation as treatments for stress.

Free-energy change, ΔG∘, is related to cell potential, E∘, by the equation ΔG∘=−nFE∘ where n is the number of moles of electrons
elena-s [515]

Answer:

-372000 J or -372 KJ

Explanation:

We have the electrochemical reaction as;

Mg(s)  +  Fe^2+(aq)→  Mg^2+(aq)  +   Fe(s)

We must first calculate the E∘cell from;

E∘cathode -  E∘anode

E∘cathode = -0.44 V

E∘anode = -2.37 V

Hence;

E∘cell = -0.44 V -(-2.37 V)

E∘cell = 1.93 V

n= 2 since two electrons were transferred

F=96,500C/(mol e−)

ΔG∘=−nFE∘

ΔG∘= -( 2 * 96,500 * 1.93)

ΔG∘= -372000 J or -372 KJ

Explain how a nuclear power plant functions and what safety precautions must be taken to ensure the safety of the power plant, i
Talja [164]
Nuclear energy originates from the splitting of uranium atoms – a process called fission. This generates heat to produce steam, which is used by a turbine generator to generate electricity. Although renewable energy sources, like wind and solar power, are important resources for a country’s energy mix, only nuclear power is capable of producing large amounts of electricity 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

For safety precaution which regards to employees, several federal agencies—the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. departments of Energy and Transportation—establish radiation protection regulations for U.S. nuclear plants based on internationally recognized scientific studies.

For the safety precaution of power plants itself, The NRC monitors plant performance according to three strategic areas: reactor safety, radiation safety and security.
